During Windows Phone 8′s launch last October, Microsoft promised a wealth of games coming to the new platform and among its supporters was Gameloft. The gigantic mobile game publisher promised to bring 12 of its most successful games to Microsoft’s new OS. Almost four months later, we are seeing the first (and arguably the most popular) of those promised games — Asphalt 7: Heat — available today for Xbox on Windows Phone 8.
Asphalt 7: Heat is the second title from the popular gaming franchise to make its way to Windows Phone after the disappointing and extremely delayed release of Asphalt 5 last year. Don’t jump to conclusions though, because Heat is an entirely different beast than its predecessors and is the latest entry into the racing franchise overall. The graphics alone should clue you into that, as this looks to be the first game to truly test the firepower inside Windows Phone 8′s dual-core Snapdragon S4 processors.
Featuring a selection of over 60 cars licensed from real automakers and 15 tracks located around the world, there’s no shortage of rubber-shredding fun to be had. Asphalt 7 also touts six different game modes to keep some variety, including online and local multiplayer support to race against up to five friends. Since this is also a Xbox release, Asphalt 7 for Windows Phone is the only version of the game to include support for Achievements and Xbox Leaderboards.
On other platforms, Heat has been met with extremely positive reviews — the iOS App Store is reporting a 4.5-star average rating from almost 33,000 users. We could go on and on about the quality of the game, but there’s one thing you should be cautious of: its size. Asphalt 7 for Windows Phone is a stupefying 878 MB download, so if you’re on a low-memory WP8 device you might have to make some room before you can install it.
Once you do manage to install Asphalt 7: Heat, the very reasonable $0.99 asking price (with the standard free trial of course) should make things easier to digest. Start turbo boosting your way past friends by downloading the game; click on the tile or link below to get the game from the Windows Phone Store, or scan the QR code to the right by using the Bing Vision Lens on your Windows Phone.
