Today is one of those rare days when the benevolent Xbox gods smile upon us and deliver two new games for Windows Phone 8. The second of those games is Real Soccer 2013 by Gameloft, and it’s set to slide-tackle its way into your heart…for free. (The first Xbox release was The Amazing Spider-Man.)
If the name Real Soccer rings a bell, it shouldn’t just because of how forgettable the original Windows Phone release of the game was. Released last July, that game was actually based on the horridly outdated 2010 version, thus proving to be a bad deal even for half the price of other platforms. Fortunately, Gameloft has gotten it right this time providing us with the latest and greatest entry into its franchise, Real Soccer 2013.
You start the game with a rookie club and win your way to the top upgrading players’ abilities, team facilities, and more as you progress. This is the first game in the franchise to attain a FIFPro license, which means Real Soccer 2013 shows real players names’ on the field and their portraits in the game. It’s also synced to any roster changes that might occur mid-season, so you’re always playing with the right setup each game.
The game is also the first in the franchise to be free on all platforms, though there’s obviously a catch. While you never have to pay up to play the game, Real Soccer 2013 does rely on an in-game currency which you earn as you win or can choose to buy more of via in-app purchasing.
Real Soccer 2013 is available in the United States and Canada Windows Phone Stores for free. Other regions can download the same game under the name Real Football 2013, which is also free.
