The anticipation levels are going to reach a fever pitch as we approach the Nokia Lumia 928′s rumored April release date on Verizon, and that includes a few shady rumors. This is one of those articles — an unverified tip appeared in the inbox of Nokiapoweruser and it’s suggesting at least one big change headed to the Lumia 928′s specs.
Here’s how the tipster tells it: the Lumia 928 is set to become the most powerful Windows Phone 8 device yet by featuring a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor with the more powerful Adreno 320 graphics. The only processor which matches up with those specs is the MSM8960T, and the only difference between it and the current MSM8960 processor is the graphics. Interestingly, a rumor last year pegged the China Mobile-bound Nokia Lumia 920T to feature the same processor setup though that never came to pass.
The anonymous tipster also claimed the Lumia 928 will get a bump in both cameras. A 2.2-megapixel camera is said to be on the front, while daylight and low-light quality images will improve with a larger camera sensor on the rear. We’ve already seen camera samples from the 928, and they are admittedly impressive. Finally, the Lumia 928 may also come with a GDR2 firmware update preinstalled, which seems like the most believable part of this rumor.
We’re skeptical about this rumor for a number of reasons, but at the same time it’s just believable enough to keep in the back of our minds. The processor upgrade is feasible since the MSM8960T is identical to the current S4 processor, but then what’s the point of including the improved graphics? Every other part of the rumor can be considered safe guesses in our opinion, so we’ll see if it comes to fruition in the next few weeks.
